Park Guthrie is a self-contained 6th-grade teacher at Salmon Creek Middle School in Occidental, California. He also developed and teaches the Climate Advocacy Elective, one of the first public school classes in the country focussed entirely on giving young people time and tools to engage in real-world non-partisan climate advocacy during the school day. Park has been a California public school teacher for most of the last 25 years. He has also worked as an Outward Bound instructor, a landscape contractor, a non-profit director, and the Garden-Education Specialist for Oakland Unified School District. Park graduated from Stanford University with a major in Philosophy and Religious Studies and earned his teaching credential at San Francisco State. He is a third-generation Army brat and grew up on Army posts in 5 states and 4 countries in Europe. When Park is not advocating for the climate, he loves backpacking, gardening, rock-climbing, and surfing. He is married to Kristan Klingelhoffer, a fellow educator, and has 3 children, Kai, Lola, and June.
