National Children’s Campaign Supporting March For Science’s Historic Science Not Silence Campaign
The youth advocacy organization is partnering with March For Science on their campaign to get elected officials to publicly support the IPCC 1.5°C report and champion climate legislation
January 14, 2020 – CAMPAIGN BACKGROUND: The groundbreaking IPCC 1.5°C report – authored by the world’s leading climate scientists – has been blocked from UN climate negotiations by several oil and gas producing nations. They are actively discrediting the science and silencing the report’s dire warnings. This is unacceptable. That’s why it is imperative that we raise awareness around this coordinated effort to silence science and mobilize supporters to call on their respective governments to embrace the IPCC 1.5°C report and raise climate goals accordingly. The National Children’s Campaign proudly joins March For Science’s #ScienceNotSilence campaign by calling on presidential candidates to publicly support the IPCC 1.5°C report and commit to America’s youth that they will pass bold climate legislation in their first 100 days of office. Track the posts to the candidates on the National Children’s Campaign and March For Science Twitter accounts. Learn more about the campaign at sciencenotsilence.org.
Chet Monday, March For Science’s Director of Youth Engagement and director of the Science Not Science campaign said. “The National Children’s Campaign has a proven track record for accomplishing meaningful policy reforms. Their support of the Science Not Silence campaign will bring a much-needed presence of young advocates to the table.”
Jonah Gottlieb, National Children’s Campaign Co-Founder & Executive Director said, “We’re proud to support the Science Not Silence campaign from March For Science. In order for governments to serve young people, elected officials need to #ListenToTheScience. That means publicly supporting the IPCC 1.5°C report and taking the strong, necessary climate action prescribed by climate scientists. The bold climate proposals being proposed many elected officials are not radical, they are what the science says we need to fight the climate crisis and give America’s 74 million children a livable planet.”
