FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
National Children’s Campaign Partners with Write the World and Facing History for Civics in Action 2020 Writing Program
Cambridge, MA (April 7, 2020) –The National Children’s Campaign and Facing History and Ourselves have joined Boston-based EdTech company Write the World, a global online platform for student writing, to launch Civics in Action 2020, a writing and multimedia storytelling initiative for teens around the world following the course of the 2020 election cycle.
Through January 2021, Write the World will publish the work of Civics in Action Fellows, a group of 20 young writers from around the United States and the world, who are investigating, reporting, and reflecting upon what it means to be an active citizen. Working with Write the World editors, Fellows are given the chance to publish non-partisan works in a Civics in Action Broadcast, including civic-minded op-eds, long-form articles, letters to the editor, political journalism and multimedia storytelling.
From environmental activism to issues of (im)migration and racial justice, the 2020 election in the United States to current events in writers’ home countries and the unfolding of COVID-19 across continents, Civics in Action 2020 is positioned to be the leading outlet for youth voices on today’s most pressing issues.

SAMPLE WORKS:
From Fellow Amy Nam, 15, Canada: “‘China has confirmed over three hundred cases of the coronavirus,’ I told my school on January 23 in the weekly announcements, as if I were reporting the weather. That afternoon, a classmate asked me if I was Chinese. ‘No,’ I replied, smiling stiffly. ‘I’m Korean.’” Read Amy’s full Broadcast, “The Solution to this Pandemic: Empathy” at Write the World.
