National Children’s Campaign Launches Weekly Podcast
May 5, 2020 – The National Children’s Campaign (NCC) and Goal 17 Media have launched a new podcast called Our Future: Now, a National Children’s Campaign Podcast. In addition, a partnership between NCC and news site Parentology will see the podcast as a weekly feature on Parentology’s Youth Voices section.
“Elected officials love posing with children in campaign ads while ignoring the issues that impact their lives,” NCC President and Co-Founder, Kimberly Gutzler says. “Through interviews with inspiring youth activists, policymakers and champions for children, Our Future: Now, a National Children’s Campaign Podcast will provide a roadmap for ensuring that politicians are actually implementing policies that address the concerns of children instead of paying lip service to those concerns.”
The hosts of the weekly show are NCC’s Executive Youth Director & Co-Founder, Jonah Gottlieb and Vice President of Government Relations, Public Policy & Co-Founder, Natalie Mebane.
“At this critical juncture in America’s history, Gottlieb, part of Generation Z, and Mebane, part of Generation Y, will offer powerful voices for America’s 74 million children — something often missing from our political discourse,” Gutzler says.
The show is produced by Goal 17 Media, producers of original content to support the growth of Impact companies and nonprofits dedicated to the common good.
“The Z and Y generations have been handed an environmental crisis not of their making,” said Greg Mollner, Co-Founder & CEO of Goal 17 Media. “Rather than complain, the National Children’s Campaign and Parentology are driving awareness and developing global solutions. We are proud to play a small part in supporting their mission.”
Parentology, which helps families navigate the digital landscape by covering topics including technology, social media, politics, education, climate change and innovation, will provide a home for the podcast.
“Sharing Our Future, Now, a National Children’s Campaign Podcast with our audience is a natural collaboration for conveying messaging so important to our audience,” Bekah Wright, Parentology’s Editor-at-Large says.
The first episode is called Why we need to fight for America’s 74 million young people now! It details what NCC’s mission is about, describes Gottlieb and Mebane’s background as activists, and explores the type of topics that Our Future: Now, a National Children’s Campaign Podcast will cover in the future.
The second episode is called How COVID-19 is harming students and families and what should be done now. It delves into how the pandemic is upending the lives of children and families, especially college students. Elsa Mengistu, a youth activist and Howard University student who has had her educational experiences interrupted by the infectious disease, is interviewed.
The third episode is called Protecting Our Essential Workers and Their Families. It focuses on the need for fairer employment policies for all workers, especially the essential workers who are doing heroic work on the frontlines as American responds to COVID-19. Victory Nwabufo and Yolian Ogbu were interviewed. They are college students who have teamed with NCC to launch a virtual movement demanding universal hazard pay and personal protective equipment for all COVID-19 essential employees, which is called #YourWorkersMyFamily.
